Central Washington University has become my poster child for class and sportsmanship on the ball field.  The school’s reputation did not emerge because of a stellar public relations program – but because of what the team did during a recent game.

I saw a recent article in The Oregonian about a college softball player, Sara Tucholsky from Western Oregon University, who hit a homerun, but was injured after rounding first base.  Her knee was injured to the point that she could not run – or circle the bases, despite having knocked the ball out of the park.  Tucholsky’s opponents from Central Washington University picked her up and carried her around the bases so she could complete her “home run trot” for her first career homerun.

Too bad we don’t see that kind of class at all levels of amateur sports.
