PRSA’s APR exam should be taken seriously.  I participated in a two-hour session in which a panel of seasoned practitioners from across the country debated the merits of various questions on the test.

There was discussion about the verbiage of each question, the semantics of both the correct and incorrect answers, as well as whether or not the question was fair and met the defined objectives of the specific section of the test.

The questions under technical review during our session had either an educational reference to support the correct answer, thus eliminating any disputes about the proper response, or they required a practical application that further supports the practitioners’ expertise in the profession as a strategist rather than a tactician.

No doubt about it, the APR exam is tough.  But, studying and using the knowledge gained from years as a practitioner can be applied to further the careers of anyone willing to take the extra steps required to become APR.
